Greater Phoenix CVB to Stage Arizona's 1st Multicultural Tourism Summit

The Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau will host a Multicultural Tourism Summit, Sept 24-26, 1998 at the Pointe Hilton Resort at Squaw Peak, Phoenix. Designed for a broad audience, including Arizona's hospitality industry, government representatives and travel industry leaders, the conference will utilize keynote speakers, general sessions, panel discussions, cultural entertainment and a cultural trails tour to focus participants on Arizona's potential to attract the multi-billion dollar ethnic convention and leisure travel markets. Focusing on the African American, Asian, Hispanic and Native American markets, the summit will feature experts on the economic impact of multicultural tourism, cultural awareness and marketing to the ethnic consumer. San Antonio's New Latin American Art Center is Nation's First, Underscoring City's Hispanic Heritage

The Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Latin American Art, set to open at the San Antonio Museum of Art in October, is expected to become the nation's premier center for the study and appreciation of Latin American art and culture. Featured will be pre-Columbian art, folk art, Spanish Colonial/Republican art and modern/contemporary art housed in a new wing named in acknowledgment of Rockefeller's significant capital contributions, the 2500 folk art objects donated from his collection in 1985 as well as his efforts to gain recognition for Latin American culture in the US. The Center joins a long list of multicultural attractions that the city promotes in its "Puro San Antonio" marketing campaign, aimed at both the general consumer market and the Hispanic traveler.
