At 34 Million People, US Hispanics Are Not A Segment. They're A Market!

SIL Group's Grupo Hispano division conducts the monthly telephone National Hispanic Omnibus. It provides unique benefits to marketers targeting the US Hispanic consumer today:
* National In Scope. Census data shows that 50% of US Hispanics do not live in the major urban centers. Thus our national sample of US Hispanic households is drawn from both the top 5 US Hispanic markets as well as the rest of the country.
* 'Real' Hispanic Consumers. We screen for Spanish language media usage, not just surname.
* 'Cultural Demographics': We provide both comprehensive demographics as well as our exclusive 'Acculturation Index' score so you can segment on degree of cultural assimilation.
* Segmentation. Hispanics are not monolithic. We segment by national origin.

Frida Kahlo Honored In U.S. Postage Stamp And New Film

Famed Mexico City artist Frida Kahlo is the subject of a US Postal Service stamp, making her the first Hispanic woman to be part of a series of stamps featuring fine arts. The 34-cent stamp uses one of her colorful, powerful self-portraits. The issuance of the stamp also coincides this year with two museum exhibitions featuring her work and the release of a Miramax film on the artist's life starring Salma Hayek. Kahlo, who is especially known for her dramatic self-portraits, was one of the best-known Latin American artists, and one of the most widely admired female artists in the world. Influenced by Mexican folk art, the politics and religion of the time and her own suffering, Kahlo painted in bright colors with unusual and occasionally disturbing images. The postage stamp and the biographical movie will continue to showcase this talented and unique Mexico City artist to the US. Multicultural Marketing Resources, Inc. Releases Fall/Winter 2001 Calendar of Multicultural Conferences and Seminars
Multicultural Marketing Resources, Inc. has compiled a comprehensive calendar of more than 70 seminars and conferences taking place in the fall/winter of 2001. These events are especially of interest to marketing professionals who target Hispanics, African Americans, Asian Americans, women, the gay & lesbian market and other cultural/lifestyle groups. The calendar is available at no charge to professionals in the marketing and public relations industry. Events were selected to be included by the editors of MMR's Multicultural Marketing News newsletter, which helps forge alliances among marketers who target niche markets. "We compiled the calendar to provide a comprehensive list of upcoming events for marketing professionals who target the nation's ethnic populations," said Lisa Skriloff, President of Multicultural Marketing Resources, Inc. "In addition, the calendar helps conference planners avoid selecting dates that conflict with the events of other multicultural organizations, which often lowers the attendance of both events." Perhaps, most importantly, the events listed provide an excellent forum for networking among professionals who target niche markets. To request a free calendar with the entire year's events or to have your event listed, call (212) 242-3351, email Jessica Walker at jessica@multicultural.com.
